Description
This is a bit of an American Realism piece combined with my own style of painting. The colors are warm while the scene depicts winter to give the viewer a feeling of comfort. I've been told the scene gives viewers a sense of "having been there". The painting is done in a limited palette and I've accented the outline to showoff the diagonal and complex multi point perspective incorporated in the design.

David, the warm colors took me by surprise (along with the rusty bar roof as a focus point). I like the sky- there is a promise for something warmer to come. Lovely work! l/f

Your work is "quality" and this particular piece resonates with me as city art is often under-presented. This work is exceptional. Regards. Fav

I love this painting Stan. The palette and definition are just wonderful! Looks like a scene from here in Central Illinois!

One of the comments I get on this from most people is that they know a place that it reminds them of. I like that about this one. I appreciate your comment, thanks!

Nice work David. It reminds me of work by artist, Susan Abbot (in Vermont) with a maybe touch of Edward Hopper.
David Dorrell replied:
Thank you for commenting! I wasn't familiar with Susan Abbott's so I went and checked it out. Very nice. Yes I can see that similarity. Hopper WAS an influence for this work. I was painting this for a challenge to emulate a style of painting (American Realist), in which I place works by Winslow Homer, Hopper, and in this case Andrew Wyeth amongst others. Then of course my own style kicked in.
